School visit for the European Sustainable Development Week

On 7 October, students from Heura School took part in the guided tour “Sant Pau, World Heritage and a model of sustainability”, an activity organised within the framework of the European Sustainable Development Week (ESDW).

The tour offered a route through the indoor and outdoor spaces of the Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, combining heritage interpretation with a focus on energy efficiency and the environmental criteria applied in the site’s restoration and current management.

During the activity, students learned about the work of Lluís Domènech i Montaner and his innovative vision, based on the use of natural and locally sourced materials, the optimisation of natural light, passive ventilation, and gardens designed to promote well-being and biodiversity.

These principles continue to guide the site’s current management, recognised with six LEED certifications and distinctions such as Biosphere Responsible Tourism and the ISO 14001 and 50001 standards. Sant Pau stands today as a reference in the integration of heritage and sustainability.
