Who are we?
After housing the facilities of the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau for a century, the transfer of healthcare activity to the new hospital paved the way for an ambitious restoration process that has recovered the heritage and artistic value of the Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site, designed by architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner.
Thanks to this transformation, the Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site has become a new landmark in Barcelona where history and innovation coexist. Sant Pau is home to a number of leading institutions working in fields such as sustainability, health and education. These organisations carry out their own programmes and projects at the Art Nouveau Site while also undertaking joint initiatives aimed at addressing the challenges facing 21st-century society.
The restoration of the modernist pavilions, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997, has also made it possible to develop a cultural programme whose main objective is to showcase this treasure of European Art Nouveau. Lluís Domènech i Montaner and his contribution to the modernist movement, together with Sant Pau’s heritage and institutional value and its contribution to medicine, are central to this programme.
Furthermore, the restoration of the modernist complex has transformed part of the Administration Pavilion into a meetings and events centre. With capacity for more than 600 people, the Administration Pavilion’s spaces provide an iconic and unique setting for corporate meetings, courses, conferences, presentations and other events.
The Administration Pavilion is also home to the Historical Archive of the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, one of the most important surviving hospital archives, containing historical works and documents dating from the 15th to the 20th century.
The Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site is owned by the Fundació Privada Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, whose members are the Cathedral Chapter, Barcelona City Council and the Government of Catalonia. The governing body of the institution, founded in 1401, is the Molt Il·lustre Administració.
