From Mahler to the mélodie
Praised by the French newspaper *Le Figaro* as “the Pelléas of his time,” British baritone Huw Montague-Rendall has conquered some of the world’s leading opera houses, such as the Royal Opera House and the Opéra National de Paris, as well as the Salzburg and Aix-en-Provence Festivals, among others. But his artistic profile goes beyond opera, as he is also a distinguished recitalist, particularly renowned for his interpretations of Gustav Mahler’s orchestral Lieder and Henri Duparc’s mélodies, which he has masterfully recorded with Malcolm Martineau. In this performance, alongside Joseph Middleton—one of LIFE Victoria’s regular pianists—he makes his Barcelona recital debut after recently performing at the Liceu in *Die Fledermaus* (*The Bat*) under the baton of Marc Minkowski. Another unmissable debut at the Festival by one of the voices set to become essential in the art song scene in the coming years.
