Winner of the Xavier Montsalvatge Prize at the Les Corts International Competition, pianist Clara Santacana makes her debut at LIFE Victoria within the Alicia de Larrocha piano series. Victoria, Alicia, and Xavier—three great names, great friends—come together in this recital. She will begin with a piece by the Girona-born composer, the exquisite *Sonatine pour Yvette*, dedicated to his daughter, followed by five lesser-known characters than those of *Cinco canciones negras*, here presented as the *Five Birds in Freedom*, a concept that echoes throughout this year’s festival. Premiered in 1997—and dedicated to his grandchildren Berta and Yvonne, Clara and Ivo, and the last one to his dogs—this suite also references *El cant dels ocells*, just as he did in his *Homenatge a Victoria de los Ángeles*, dedicated to the soprano. In the second half of the programme, audiences will enjoy her pianistic virtuosity with *Sonata in B minor No. 3, Op. 58* by Frédéric Chopin, considered one of the most challenging works by the Polish composer.
