Pianist Alba Ventura will continue with the performance of Isaac Albéniz’s suite Iberia, composed between Paris and near Nice, where he moved for health reasons and where he died in 1909, only one year after completing this monumental work. Born in Camprodon in 1860, he returned to Catalonia to be buried in Montjuïc Cemetery in 1909 in a massive funeral. Iberia is the composer’s dream of an idealised country, moving away from folklorism yet drawing from popular sources in a poetic and almost dreamlike way. In this second concert, pianist Alba Ventura, also director of the Marshall Academy, will perform Books III and IV of this immense suite created by the Catalan composer within the Alicia de Larrocha series, which honours this great pianist and friend of Victoria de los Ángeles.
