Iberia I and II: a dream from afar

Iberia is Isaac Albéniz’s great musical dream: a Spain experienced through memory and imagination. Composed between Paris and near Nice between 1905 and 1909, he completed it just one year before his death. Far from home, the composer transforms memories and landscapes into music full of light, rhythm and mystery. With great harmonic sophistication and pianistic richness, these pieces evoke not only places —such as Triana or El Albaicín— but the very soul of a country. Alba Ventura, a student of Alicia de Larrocha, who in turn studied with Frank Marshall, who himself was a pupil of Enric Granados, will offer us this music first-hand over two concerts. In this first concert she will perform Books I and II of this great suite, which includes moments as well known as they are sublime, such as *Evocación* or *El puerto*, pieces that Alicia de Larrocha performed on numerous occasions, becoming one of their great interpreters.
