Mild und Leise

“Every time I go to the theater, I cry from beginning to end, because of this great love between the two lovers” and that is why Victoria de los Ángeles chose Liebestod without hesitation in the interview they did with her on the Desert Island Discs program in 1978 BBC. This fascination with Tristan und Isolde manifested by Victoria inspires this program with the greats Anne Schwanewilms and Malcolm Martineau, directed by Vincent Huguet in this salon stage proposal. A Wagnerian living room atmosphere inspired by the beginnings of Tristanen Wahnfried himself, the home of Richard and Cosima Wagner in Bayreuth. As the opening day of 2024, we propose this impossible dialogue of Victoria with Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde, a composer of whom she performed several titles, such as Lohengrin, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg or Tannhäuser, being conducted in the latter by Wieland Wagner, the composer’s grandson, in Bayreuth, still becoming the only Spanish soprano to have sung on the green hill.
