New exhibition: historical recreation of the MIA office

A historical recreation of what was the office of the Most Illustrious Administration (MIA) has been added to the route of the visit to the Art Nouveau Site.

The old hospital, created in 1401 in the current Raval neighborhood, was already governed then by the MIA, made up of two canons representing the Cathedral and two prominent men of the city on behalf of the Consell de Cent. The function of the MIA was to direct and administer the Hospital, which was maintained thanks to alms, royal privileges, legacies and the income generated. The composition of the MIA remained intact until 1990, when it joined the Generalitat of Catalonia as a full member, with the commitment to build a new hospital center at the northern end of the modernist complex.

The recreation of what was the MIA meeting space, from 1929 to 1966, is located on the second floor of the Administration Pavilion. Visitors will find the same furniture from the old Santa Creu and Sant Pau hospital that, in the 1920s, was moved to this same building, coinciding with the transfer of healthcare activity to the modernist pavilions designed by Domènech i Montaner.

In this room, in addition to meetings, signings and other formal events were also held. The photographs of this type of event, preserved in the Historical Archive of the Hospital de Sant Pau, have provided a lot of information to stage this recreation with historical rigor.
