On Thursday 15 October at 8 pm, the Recinte Modernista will once again host one of the concerts in the Bachcelona Festival’s Cantata Cycle in the Domènech i Montaner Hall.
In October 1726, Bach composed several cantatas featuring brilliant instrumental sinfonias in the Italian style. Among these works are Cantatas BWV 169 and BWV 49, which open with inspired concertante movements that later reappeared in the celebrated Harpsichord Concerto BWV 1053.
The solo parts stand out for their virtuosity and the beautiful dialogue they establish with the other musicians. The programme thus offers a unique combination of instrumental and sacred music, presented 300 years after its premiere.
