Leaving a legacy in this world — from a child to a great work of art — has been one of humanity’s constants since the dawn of time. Kings, emperors, politicians and dictators alike have sought to outlast time, trying to defy death, the most democratic of all human experiences. Power and glory have dazzled and served as tools for those wishing to fight time itself, and it is for this reason that Fleur Barron, as part of her LIFE Victoria residency, and Kunal Lahiry have chosen to reflect on these two themes in this season’s lieder programme. They will present a programme uniquely characteristic of these two artists, whose perfect understanding on stage has taken them to such emblematic venues as the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington and Carnegie Hall itself, where they performed on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Victoria de los Ángeles’s debut there.
