Although they regularly perform with the Orquestra Simfònica Victoria de los Ángeles (OSVA), Maria Tió and Ferran Bardolet, together with Ricard Rovirosa as Tempus Trio, make their LIFE Victoria debut with this concert. They do so with a programme that reveals Beethoven’s evolution and inner struggle: from his fresh and promising youth to a deeper and more enigmatic side. The Trio in E-flat major, Op. 1 No. 1, is one of the composer’s first great chamber works and, although it still draws on the classicism of Haydn and Mozart, Beethoven already lets his individuality shine through: the energy of the Allegro, the tenderness of the Adagio cantabile, the playful character of the Scherzo, and the vitality of the Finale all announce a unique voice seeking to push the boundaries of form. With the Trio in D major, Op. 70 No. 1, known as the “Ghost” Trio, we enter a more introspective world. The second movement, Largo assai ed espressivo, possesses an almost spectral intensity that contrasts with the burst of vitality in the other two movements.
