Struggle for Reason
Mezzo-soprano Helena Ressurreição and pianist Mar Compte, both graduates of the Victoria de los Ángeles Lied Master’s programme taught at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC), present a programme exploring the portrayal of the female mind in nineteenth- and twentieth-century literature and even in Catalan popular tradition. A vision based on female figures driven to madness, mostly for reasons of love or heartbreak. Stories such as that of Queen Mary Stuart, Goethe’s characters Mignon and Gretchen, or *La dame de Monte-Carlo* by Jean Cocteau and Francis Poulenc. A journey through the female psyche led by these two outstanding emerging performers. A recital in aid of Fundació Kalida, which provides comprehensive psychosocial support for people living with cancer, their families, caregivers and friends.
