Talk: Modernisme and Domènech i Montaner, an inseparable couple

Francesc Cambó Hall
Thursday 18 January - 19:00

Modernisme, the Catalan Art Nouveau, was a trend of artistic renewal in the late 19th and early 20th centuries that came into being with the purpose of creating a new, young, free, modern art, in a breakaway from the dominant styles of the time.

In Catalonia, Modernisme was much more than an artistic movement, becoming deeply rooted in society and politics. Domènech i Montaner was a leading exponent of the movement, a total architect whose works were more than just architecture.

Mireia Freixa, Professor of History of Art at Barcelona University, will be talking about the movement and the man.
