Self-guided visit

Visita lliure

One way of getting to know the Art Nouveau Site is to take a self-guided visit in the company of your school’s teacher. The visit begins in the Sant Salvador Pavilion, an exhibition space that relates the history of the Hospital, starting in the 15th century, and pays tribute to Lluís Domènech i Montaner, a foremost figure of Modernisme, the Catalan Art Nouveau.

The recommended route continues around the outdoor spaces, through the gardens that reproduce the garden-city model designed in the early 20th century and respond to the hygienist principles of health. The Sant Rafael Pavilion houses a historical recreation that takes you back to the early days of the hospital in the 1920s, the medicine that was practised then, and the Barcelona of the time.

You can also visit the underground tunnels that communicate the buildings and illustrate a little known aspect of the Site’s architecture. The visit ends in the most representative heritage spaces of the Administration Pavilion.

You can download this brochure to prepare your visit to the Art Nouveau Site.
