Debussy II: Images, Victoria & Benedetti Michelangeli
Debussy was one of the composers that Victoria de los Ángeles performed from the beginning of her career, Pelléas et Mélisande being the last opera she performed at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in 1981, a role she debuted at a very young age. In 1978 on the BBC’s Desert Island Discs programme, when Roy Plomley asked her about the first recording she would take to a desert island, she said without hesitation Images by Debussy performed by Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli. A choice that, without a doubt, already tells us a lot about Victoria de los Ángeles’ musical imagination. Marta Puig, one of the resident artists of this season, offers us this program around Images by Debussy, which dialogues with a very Victoria program with pieces by Granados and Mompou.
